Another interesting week coming up!  Monday will start with precipitation.  It will be rain for most of the state, but northern areas could see freezing rain, mixed precipitation and/or snow.  Precipitation will clear out by later Monday and will remain dry through Thursday, before more precipitation moves in for Thursday Night and Friday before clearing out again for Friday Night.  Precipitation could be rain, mix and/or snow on Thursday and Friday.  High and low temperatures will vary quite a lot this week.  Monday’s high temperatures will occur overnight from Sunday into Monday with temperatures falling quickly during the day Monday as Arctic Air moves into the area.  Highs and lows on Monday Night and Tuesday will be in single digits to teens with some gusty winds making wind chills in the negatives!  Wednesday will see temperatures back into the teens and 20’s before moderating on Thursday and Friday into average temperatures in the 20’s-40’s with lows in the teens to 30’s.  Winds will be gusty on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before subsiding towards the end of the week.  Water conditions will be Cautious to Hazardous through Wednesday with Small Craft Advisories and Gale Warnings in effect for all marine waters.  Conditions will improve on Wednesday, likely later in the day and remaining good for the rest of the week.  Surf and beach conditions will be Cautious to Hazardous also on Monday, Tuesday and parts of Wednesday before improving for the end of the week.  Water temperatures are steady  from the weekend with 30’s and 40’s inland and low 50’s offshore.  UV Index will be Low at 0-2/15 for the week.

A cold front will cross the region from the west early on Monday.  An Arctic High Pressure will build across the area for late Monday through Wednesday before moving offshore Wednesday Night and Thursday.  A weak frontal boundary will move through Thursday Night into Friday.  High pressure will build across to the north of the area Friday and Saturday.  Another frontal boundary may affect the region over the weekend.

The weekend looks to have chances of precipitation, again from rain to a mix to snow.  Chances are low right now, but still a possibility.  Temperatures will be average to above average with 30’s to 50’s for highs and 20’s-30’s for lows.  Water and surf and beach conditions look good for Saturday before deteriorating on Saturday and Sunday again, with Cautious conditions due to winds and elevated seas.

Have a great week!  Be careful of the extreme cold on Monday Night and Tuesday…be safe.

Re: Briefing on Extreme Cold

Self-explanatory...it's going to be cold!  Single digits to below zero temperatures with wind chills that will make it feel even colder.  This is dangerously cold, so just be smart!

Be safe!

Re: Flooding Issues & Freezing Rain Advisories
« Reply #2 on: January 09, 2014, 04:31:55 PM »
Late Thursday Night into Friday will bring the start of rain with chances increasing into the weekend.  Rain chances will be around 40%-50% with likely scattered showers.  These showers could be freezing rain, causing icing on surfaces.  Snow showers are also possible for norther and centralwestern counties with less than an inch of accumulation.  Freezing Rain Advisories have been issued for Warren, Morris, Hunterdon, Somerset, Monmouth, Mercer, Salem, Gloucester, Camden, Burlington & Cumberland Counties.

Flood Warnings for Mercer County and Flash Flood Watches for Mercer and Burlington Counties have been issued due to ice pack jams on rivers and rain potential of 2+ inches of rain this weekend, could cause additional flooding conditions.

Be safe!  Working on the Weekend Outlook...
