Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak
John Kivlehan from New York, along with his son, Brian, and friend, Neil Conway, from London, are here for their 3rd annual fishing trip and chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale FL. We had winds out of the east at 10-15 mph, seas running 3-5 ft., overcast skies.
Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, FL. If you travel offshore another ¼ of a mile, the depth will be 500 ft., due to our extreme drop off. As I trolled around catching a couple of Kingfish, Mahi Mahi’s and Tunas, it was time to try our luck at some Shark fishing.
I headed out to deeper waters and put out two kites with two live Goggle Eyes from each kite, a Shark bait from the rigger and one Shark bait on the bottom. Thirty-five minutes into it, our bottom rod bent over as line exited the 80 International Reel at a quick speed. Neil was our angler – he hopped into the fighting chair to fight the unknown specie that was at the end of the line. Thirty minutes later Neil reeled in a 72” Tiger Shark to the side of the boat. Pictures were taken and the Tiger Shark was released to fight again.
The anglers retired into the a/c salon for the trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316. Mark filet the Mahi Mahi’s which will be served for dinner tonight.
