The weather will be wintry, but water conditions look calm this weekend. Overall, there will be a chance of snow both days, however accumulations should only be around 1-2 inches. Snow will come in bursts, with scattered showers. The two systems that were modeled to phase, is not going to happen. The coastal low to the south will remain south and east of the area, bringing only a glancing blow to southern areas. The second system coming across the center of the US, will move through the area, but will not bring the intensity or amount of snow it could have. Both systems are weak, with modest amounts of snow at best. So, despite the forecast being cloudy to mostly cloudy all weekend, there will not be continual snow. Temperatures will be cold, Saturday will be mainly below freezing in the teens to 30’s. Some coastal and southern areas may see temperatures above the freezing mark. Sunday will see highs only a few degrees warmer, but most areas will see temperatures above freezing this day. Water conditions are good, with calm conditions. Winds will pick up late Sunday Night, mainly across southern waters. However, many rivers and bays are still covered in ice or ice packed in most places. Surf and beach conditions will be good with calm winds and surf. Water temperatures have increased a few degrees with inshore waters all in the 30’s and offshore waters in the upper 40’s. UV Index will be Low at 1-2/15. The sun is slowly strengthening its presence with days becoming slightly longer. There are only 41 days until Spring!
High pressure will continue to build into the region through Saturday before moving off towards the northeast late Saturday. A coastal low pressure system will glance the area to the southeast on Saturday followed by a series of upper level waves through Monday. High pressure briefly returns on Tuesday as another coastal low pressure system moves through the region around Thursday!
The weather pattern looks very active and cold still. This week will be dry through Thursday, when some systems will move in. Temperatures look to be in the teens to 30’s with the possibility of snow. This is way too early to pinpoint anything down. Water conditions look cautious on Monday then good through Thursday before possibly deteriorating again. Surf and beach conditions look good through Thursday. It is hard to get an accurate forecast this far in advance with Winter Systems.
