The Fisherman a monthly now?
« on: February 19, 2014, 09:57:02 AM »
I was in Wawa the other day and the latest issue of The Fisherman caught my eye.  It was much thicker and more slick than usual.  The date only said February 2014 and the price was like $3.75.

Is The Fisherman a monthly publication now?  I can't imagine it would be $3.75 a week. :headscra:

Yes it's now monthly.
And subscribers will receive a weekly reports publication.
There were some other format changes.

The one saw was as special edition with things like what to do when it's off season or something like that. colorful with a shinny/slick outside binding.

The change was announced last year.

Thanks.  I used to subscribe many years ago.  In the past 10 years or so, I've picked it up if I saw something that interested me.

My question to you all is, with all the free information available through the internet, do you think The Fisherman is still useful and relevant?

I get it for the dream boat contest.  Once in awhile something that interests me is in the magazine . I do prefer "On the Water" magazine much more.

Occasionally there is an interesting article that I'll pick it up for.  But I no longer subscribe for two reasons.  Most of the articles are recycled from years prior.  And as you indicated, thanks to the internet, the reports section is always old news.

Sadly..no     Just my opinion. We are getting or have got to,  the point where printed media is....done, finished, etc.

Info is a text away.  Recent catches on where the hot bite is happening comes up on facebook before the fish leave the area!!!!

I'm old school.  Love reading the print, but for how long?

Not in years, I used to love the weekly reports.

I am not a glossy paper snob but something about the paper they printed on back in the day made it feel like it should be a freebie. I guess it was the ink on my hands.
