Nice deal on 2 stroke oil
« on: October 12, 2007, 10:16:15 AM »
Was turned on to a good deal on 2 stroke oil.

Pennzoil synthetic blend, 4-1 gallon case for under $52 delivered.

Works out to about 12.90 or so per gallon.

Less then the west marine cheap stuff and this is should be way better.

Go find a good synth blend cheaper then that.

No affiliation, just passing along nice deal someone passed along to me.

Cool deal.  Believe it or not, Wal-Mart sells the BRP/Johnson/Evinrude XD25 oil really cheap.  I didn't know they even made that anymore, thought they changed the name to XD30.

Is it a good idea to use the synthetic blend if you've used regular oil for a while?  I've always heard the detergents can free deposits and clog things up.

I imagine it is fine.
I hear mixing the 2 at same time COULD casue issues. Of course I did it last week and my engine ran fine.
I had bought the West marine blend $40+ tax for 2.5 gallons and before that was using their regular premium stuff $ 13.99 gallon or 29.99 for 2.5.

Next season I will switch over to the Pennzoil synth blend(same place also sells the premium plus Pennzoil same price).

8 gallons for $97.07 shipped.

That should last me almost all season next year :)

Nice, great find.  If I still had a 2-stroke I'd be looking into a couple of cases of that.

Let me ask a question about oil in a 2 stroke.

I have a '99 Merc 250 2 stroke. This is my first year with the boat and I go through what I think is a lot of oil. I typically go through a gallon of oil a trip.

"A trip" for me is as follows...I am docked at the western end of the Metedeconk river, so out to the bay, through the PP canal, east down the Manasquan river, out the inlet. I usually fish either the Sea Girt reef or off the beach at Bay Head. And then, obviously, back to the dock. That trip usually costs me about 15-20 gallons of gas; and I've clocked a typical day to be about 35-40 miles or so of running.

Does it make sense that I'm burning through a gallon of oil in that amount of time, consistently?

And, I've found wal-mart and Pep-Boys to have the best prices on 2 stroke motor oil. Both under $8/gallon...

Thx
Ross

Well, assuming a 50:1 ratio, it should be 1 gallon of oil for every 50 gallons of fuel used.  If it's an injected engine, that number would go down since the engine wouldn't use a 50:1 all the time, such as when you're at idle, trolling, etc.

Any (significant) smoke at startup or anything like that?

My '92 225 Yammy pushing a 24Grady WA with lots of bottom growth on it consumes oil and gas at a similar or greater(yes it is greater) rate but probly not a fair comparison... if yer usin' oil and gas and not foulin' plugz, if she seems to be runnin' ok she probly is....

wish I was consumin' now maybe get down later today.... t^ t^

BTW that is a great deal on oil mebbe even make me switch from the Yamalube...

Why don't ya get in contact with one of the diving organizations and see if any of the young guys are willing to go down and do a quick cleaning.  It is probably too late this year but half way through the season was a good time for me especially in a boating neighborhood I lived in. I use to do that when I was young it put money in the pocket and was time spent down under.

Just thinking out loud.
