5/30 sandy hook area
« on: May 31, 2014, 10:49:00 AM »
Lots of moving around the point area. 3 total keepers (fluke) and about 6 short. Largest 23 inches. Pearl and chartreuse gulp. Trolled for 4 hours no blues or bass. Massive bunker pod came through and into sandy hook bay but nothing working them. Highlight of the day, a huge pod of dolphin came near the hook early this morning, at least 100. Great day on the water.

Question about stretches. I was pulling stretches on braid (both 25+). It seemed like I could not get them to hit bottom even in 19 ft of water. What speed do you guys generally go and do you find you need allot of line out to get down. I was somewhere between 2 and 2.5 knots.

Thanks for the report.

2 knots seems a little slow. You should easily hit bottom in 19'. You probably didn't have enough line out and the water effect on the braid and slow speed kept the plugs up.

whs  I have good luck at 3.2 knots .Give or take .Presentation changes with turns and tide direction ,by that ,if your trolling with or against the tide ,the plug will act different .With that being said ,you might have to adjust the speed .

Thanks for the advice both on this board and the private replies. Since I had allot of line out, I just kept putting out more looking for bottom, I am guessing it was the speed.  Somewhere I heard that slower was better but maybe that was for spoons. I will keep trying until I get it right. Hopefully the water temp will rise a bit and the fluking will improve.
