Rod holder mounted Cutting board Reviews.
« on: July 06, 2007, 08:25:58 PM »
Ok, so I bugged my wife to get me a cutting board for fathers day.

We all know the kind, rod Holder mounted for flush rod holds in gunwales.

Well, went cheap 1st and had her order the Cabelas.

I have 4 flush mount rod holders 4 more in stern (catfish knowsthem) and 2 more stainless ones mounted on my bow rails.

The Cabelas model did not fit in ANY of my rod holders.

No idea who they made this thing for but it was for fisherman. I think my rod holders are all standardised size, so go figure.

Back to Cabelas it went.

Said ok, pony up and have the wife order the Fentress. I heard Fentress was decent.

Got it, put it together and it fit this time.

went to use it last week and the mechanism to stabilize the board is complete crap.
Utter piece of sh!t!

That is going back this week :(

ordered a magma from Ebay on Tuesday or something, about same price as Fentress.
Got it today and it is GREAT!

Turns out same one as my pops has had for 6 years. great Locking mechanism and his has held up just fine (I got the slightly smaller version)

Anyone looking for a cutting board, I am here to save you time and trouble.

Skip the others and go straight to the magma. Get it on ebay for $30 cheaper then WM or Boatersworld.

I paid (well wife) $79.xxx shipped (got same week) from Ebay.

make sure the one you get comes with mounting system as sometimes, they do not and that is $50 extra if you get the board only.

Read the details/fine print.

I have the smaller of the 2 versions which is perfect for me.
hope my adventure saves you guys some trouble and return shipping costs.

Should have asked me LOL I went right to the magma.. just watch the groves that are cut out in the bottom which locks it into place... my wife didnt think she had it locked in and went to give it a twist by holding the board and bent the  teeth that holds it into place... No biggie i just bent them back but just word of caution t^

I had bought the Magma swivel base at consumers marine and mounted a 20x24" piece of Corian on it, works great and cost me about $35.00 t^

I've had the Magma for several years.  They are the best I could find.

I got the Magma also, and strangly enough, one day while backing in the boat, I wacked the board on the pole, the rod holder in the boat broke before the base of the Magma...  I didn't have to replace the board, but I did have to replace my flush rod holder..
