Reel McCoy Monday report 08/04/2014
« on: August 05, 2014, 01:33:28 PM »
Had Dick my neighbor out for a ocean fluke trip yesterday.  We started out on the SH reef with a slow drift which produced a couple of shorts and skates.  We repeated the drift when Dick hooks into what seemed to be a decent fish and while I was reaching for the net I get a nice hit set the hook and get the fish a few feet off the bottom and hold him there while I net Dick's fish which turned out to be just short.  Now back to my fish..as I start reeling in I realize it is a nice one and tell Dick to hurry up getting his fish out of the net.  He gets the net free and hands it to me just as I get the fish to the surface.  Fish weighed in at 8.5 lbs, largest on my boat and tied my PB.
Drift died so off to the 'snake where we saw Irish Ayes and his crew with special guest Bucktail.  We picked at shorts (fluke and SeaBass) and managed another keeper Fluke and a CB.  I made a move to the mud and we put 2 more keepers in the boat as the South wind picked up.  Moved a bit inshore and found a slow pick of shorts.  Ended the day with 4 keeper fluke and one CB.
When we were out on the mud a school of fish passed behind the boat just under the surface.  These fish were about 3-4' long and were swimming with tail fins out of the water and I saw a few of them "light up".  It was hard to get a good look at them due to the glare.  I will never know what they were as they were gone just as fast as they appeared.  I was thinking Mahi but who knows.

Nice fish Dan. Good to see you out there.

Here is what your fish looked like from my boat.  ;D

Its better to sit in a boat and think about God, than to sit in a church and think about fishing.
