need help with tog fishing sod bank
« on: October 23, 2007, 11:49:08 PM »
A friend of mine wants to fish the sod banks near the old Coast Guard station in Tuckerton.

What is the best way to do this?  Bait, (I suggested fiddler crabs as I have seen them in numbers there), rig (single hook, double hook?) etc.  I assume you fish the bottom.  Am I correct in that?

Thanks for all the help on this subject.

Any spots where you can find a hole or drop off adjacent to the banks will be very good.  Mussel beds as well.

Fiddlers should be like candy there. Bring some greenies as well as a bigger, crunchier bait will often produce larger fish if they're active.

Top bait for that area is also calico crabs.  Blueclaws should work well too.

I'd start off with just a single hook rig.  For fiddlers, smaller hooks are best, but really wouldn't go under a 3/0 Gami oct personally.  Can use a snafu with whole green crabs or calicoes if bigger fish are out and about.
