Had Steve Magyari, Fin-S Bob, Brian O'Shea and Bluefish Steve aboard today. Started out running north into the teeth of the NNW wind. Got up to Asbury, found a few birds, but some incredibly dirty water, made a couple of drops and Steve had a small bluefish or bass follow him right up to the boat, no take though.
Decided as it got nastier to the north to run a bit further south to find some cleaner water, aside from that I got a call from a buddy off Ocean Beach and they had a few fish earlier, and the boats I talked to at the Rocks at that point were fishless, so we headed South.
Made many drops on great looking marks, with diving gannets and a few small patches of working birds from the S Jetty of Manasquan Inlet down to Lavalette, only to find cleaner water, at times acres of bait, however no fish. Wind started to crank out of the North by 11, so we put the trolling sticks in and worked our way north with shad rigs nad stretch plugs, only to still come up fishless.
We called it a day at 12:30 today, real, real tough day. We did hear of some fish at the Rocks a little later on on the troll bite, when the tide was right, but we would've never made it up there.
Today, the fish won this battle from our end LOL... The windburn feels great right now
Some days you're the bug, some days you're the windshield.... It WILL get better!!!
