A very unsettled week with hazardous and cautious water conditions and a possible Nor’Easter bringing rain and snow across the state. Monday will continue with rain chances decreasing into the overnight. Fog is likely early in the morning across much of the state. Tuesday Day will be dry with chances of showers moving in during the night. Wednesday is the questionable day. Depending on the track, it could be difference between rain and accumulating snow or absolutely nothing. The models are trending towards at least rain, gusty winds, high and rough surf, beach erosion and coastal flooding. Snow will depend on the track and could range from a mix to several plus inches. This will be the topic to watch this week, especially with the timing affecting one of the biggest travel days of the year! Thursday looks to be dry, however there may be some lingering precipitation and clouds from the Nor’Easter. Friday looks to be most settled and nicest days of the week with dry conditions and a mix of sun and clouds. Highs will range from 70’s on Monday to 30’s by the end of the week. That’s quite a temperature spread!! Lows will range from the 50’s down to the 20’s by late week. Water conditions will be mixed as well, mostly hazardous to cautious. Monday will have hazardous conditions with Gale Warnings and Small Craft Advisories. The remainder of the week will be cautious to hazardous, with very low chances of good conditions most of the week. Wednesday’s Forecasts do not reflect the coastal low pressure system effects. If the system tracks close enough to bring precipitation, water conditions will be cautious to hazardous with winds in excess of 20 knots, minimum, and seas 6-8 feet minimum. The track will change these numbers either for the better or worse. Thursday may have the best chances of borderline conditions, depending on the timing and response of the ocean. Friday will usher in its own cautious to hazardous water conditions that are not likely to improve into the weekend. Surf and beach conditions will be ok to hazardous this week. Rough surf with wave heights to 4-8 feet or more will be on and off. If the Nor’Easter affects surf, beach erosion and rip currents will be an added risk. Water temperatures are in the upper 30’s to upper 50’s with most waters in the 40’s to mid 50’s. UV Index will be Low to Moderate all week.
NWS PHI Coastal Storm Briefing #1
Intensifying low pressure in Missouri will arrive in the Upper Great Lakes Monday, pulling a strong warm front north through the region on early Monday. A cold front, then move through the region and off the coast on Monday Night. High pressure follows for late Tuesday. A coastal storm forming off of the North Carolina Coast Wednesday Morning moves east and northeast towards New England for Thanksgiving. A cold front moves through the area on Thursday Evening and high pressure moves into the Carolinas next weekend.
The weekend looks dry with highs in the 30’s and 40’s and lows in the 20’s and 30’s. Water, surf and beach conditions will be mixed from cautious to good, but mostly cautious at this point both days.
The Atlantic Tropics are quiet.
Have a great week and a great Thanksgiving! Be safe if you are traveling on Wednesday, it could be nasty. Thanks for reading.
