A crazy weather week, but not as crazy water conditions! Monday through Thursday could see precipitation, anything from rain to wintry precipitation including freezing rain, sleet, mix and snow. Monday areas west and north of the I95 Corridor will have freezing rain possibilities moving in after midnight and through the morning commute, as well as mixed wintry precipitation and even some accumulating snow for Northwestern portions of the state. Any freezing rain/ice will make surfaces dangerous. Walking and driving could be treacherous with the smallest amount of ice accretion/accumulation. Tuesday through Thursday will have scattered to isolated rain/wintry precipitation/snow showers across much of the state. Wednesday will have the greatest chances of any accumulation and right now that looks on the lower side. Friday will see clearing skies and dry conditions. Temperatures will be seasonable in the 20’s and 30’s with overnight lows ranging from the single digits to 30’s. Wind chills could make temperatures feel colder. Water conditions, overall do not look so bad this week. A mix from good to borderline to cautious conditions are possible depending on day and location. Monday Night, Tuesday and Wednesday will be the worst of the days with borderline to cautious conditions and Small Craft Advisories due to gustier winds and building seas. Surf and beach conditions will be good to ok. Midweek will have some gustier winds and rougher, higher surf building to 3-5 feet. Water temperatures are steady in the 30’s and 40’s with offshore waters in the mid 50’s. UV Index will be Low at 0-2/15.

A cold front across the Midwest will move eastward through the Mid Atlantic States Monday Afternoon with low pressure forming on the front east of DELMARVA and then out to sea on Monday Night. Strong, cold high pressure  over the Midwest Monday Night moves to the north of the area on Tuesday and weakens on Wednesday. Low pressure systems will be forming off the Southeast US Coast on Wednesday and Thursday. High pressure will then build across the East Coast Friday Night into the weekend.

The weekend looks dry with temperatures climbing into the mid 30’s to low 40’s with overnight lows in the 20’s and 30’s. Water, surf and beach conditions will start off good for Saturday and most of Sunday. Sunday could see an increase in winds and building seas in the afternoon to evening.

Have a great week and thanks for reading!

Re: Snow Tuesday Night into Wednesday Morning
« Reply #1 on: January 13, 2015, 05:10:09 PM »
Low pressure riding along an offshore cold front has lifted a bit more north and could come even farther north than forecast. The farther north it moves, the more likelihood of accumulating snow for Tuesday Night into Wednesday Morning and early Afternoon. Right now, Southern NJ, excluding the western portions of counties will see less than an inch of accumulating snow, again, affecting the morning commute. Worse case scenario is 1-3 inches. Nothing major, just a nuisance at worst! Areas north of Southern Ocean, Southwestern Burlington, and Southern Camden Counties will not see any accumulation. Snow showers are likely and slick surfaces are still possible.

Be safe!
