Hot and humid with a cool down and rain chances with mixed water conditions. Saturday will be a mix of sun and clouds with clouds increasing throughout the day. The daytime should be dry, but showers and/or thunderstorms could start late in the day into the night. Any rain/thunderstorm activity will be scattered. Any of these storms could border on severe, also. Temperatures will be warm with moderate to higher humidity, however temperatures will begin dropping as cooler and drier air moves in with the passing cold front. Sunday will bring much more clouds and higher chances of more organized and widely scattered or wider-spread, with chances increasing throughout the day. Highs will only be in the 60’s to lower 80’s with less humidity and will continue to remain cooler and less humid for most of next week. Water conditions will be mixed and depend on location. Overall borderline to cautious conditions are likely, but areas and windows of good conditions are possible. Saturday will start off borderline to good with some patchy fog and limited visibility, then become cautious, as winds increase to 25 knots or so with building seas. Winds will settle some on Sunday, again borderline to cautious with improving conditions possible later in the day. Any rain and/or thunderstorms will create higher winds and seas and could limit visibility as well. Surf and beach conditions will be good to ok. Gusty winds could increase to 25 knots and surf heights could top 3-5 feet, however average looks to be 2-4 feet with low risks of rip currents. Water temperatures are steady or have increased a few degrees, especially in shallower and southern waters. Offshore waters have increased a few degrees as well. Surf temperatures are a few degrees cooler. UV Index will be Moderate to Very High at 4-9/15.

High pressure will build off the Northern Atlantic Coast on Friday into Saturday. A cold front will move, slowly southeast across the area late on Saturday Night through Sunday and then stall across the southern area or just south of the area on Monday into Tuesday. High pressure will build to the north early next week before trying to move into the area on Wednesday into Thursday.

The upcoming week will start with rain chances and/or thunderstorms on Monday and Tuesday, then dry for the rest of the week. Highs will be cooler than this week, in the 60’s and 70’s with overnight lows in the 50’s. Water, surf and beach conditions will be cautious with gusty winds and higher seas on Monday, Tuesday, and possibly into Wednesday before settling for Thursday and Friday.

Have a great weekend and thanks for reading!

Re: Thunderstorms and Severe Weather for Sunday
« Reply #1 on: May 31, 2015, 12:44:12 PM »
Showers and thunderstorms are starting to pop-up across neighboring states and within the state. Some of these storms could be strong to even severe. Storms capable of heavy rains, dangerous lightning, damaging winds, hail and even isolated tornadoes (mainly across Northwestern NJ) are possible.

Be aware of changing weather conditions and have a way of receiving weather alerts.
