oyster creek
« on: March 24, 2014, 12:07:08 PM »
ok so i stopped by oyster creek last week to scope it out and had a few questions,

1. Where can you launch a yak there, i saw the boat ramp on the west side of rt 9 but wasnt sure if it was a good spot to launch

2. im assuming you cant paddle upstream towards the plant, am i right?

3. current looks pretty strong, is it going to be a total nightmare fishing with a kayak that doesnt have the foot peddles, (i have an OC XT Angler, its heavy and kinda plows)

any input is greatly appreciated, thanks

Going south past bridge take left at next light Bay parkway go straight onto Dock avenue. Public ramp on left.
Google map. Put this address in.  You can see the ramp big white area on map.
49 Dock Ave
Waretown, NJ 08758 ‎

Up to the bridge but not further.

Can't help with the current.

Follow the directions that Reckless said.....This is an awesome place to get the kayak in and out easy.

You can kayak up to the Rt.9 bridge....just not under the bridge.

You will have NO PROBLEMS with the current in the creek.....Unless your at the mouth going out to the open bay....This area can get a little nasty at times.

There are areas like any other river that has calm areas to fish....The current will give you an awesome drift.

I would Google Earth the area and scope out some of the creek before going....A depth finder would also be a big help to find the holes and drop offs.....

Happy fishing....

Stay up around the bridge for the next couple weeks until the water starts to warm up a bit....By mid April you can start to move up around the mouth of the Creek.

By late April early May you want to stay up around the Mouth of the Creek....Bass,Weakfish and Blues will hang waiting for bait to come out of the Creek.

The water at the Creek has been much colder this winter then in the past.....But winters when the bay is frozen solid like this past winter....I have always had great fishing in the spring and Fall.

Have fun....The Creek is an awesome place to fish in the Spring....

Anyone know if there's a daily fee or season pass for the boat ramp here?
