Another dry and nice weekend of weather, but more unsettled water conditions. Temperatures have evened out for Friday with some lower humidity, however clouds have moved in today and some isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible. A few storms have already popped up across Southwestern NJ. Conditions will continue to be dry this weekend with mostly sunny to sunny skies. Saturday’s temperatures will only be in the mid 70’s to low 80’s with very dry air in place and low humidity. Overnight lows will be in the 50’s inland and 60’s at the shore. However, temperatures and humidity will increase for Sunday and Monday and the remainder of the week. Highs will move back into the mid to upper 80’s with 60’s to 70’s for overnight lows. Water conditions will start off not so great and improve throughout the weekend. Friday’s water conditions are cautious with Small Craft Advisories for ocean waters in effect until Saturday Evening. Overall, on Saturday winds could gust to 20 knots with increased seas for all waters. Inshore ocean waters could see 3-5 feet with midshore to offshore seeing seas to 6 feet. Small Craft Advisories will be in effect until 6PM on Saturday, as of this posting prompting cautious conditions for Saturday. Sunday will see improvements with borderline to cautious conditions as ocean waters could continue up to 4 feet inshore. Sunday should see good conditions for all waters except midshore to offshore waters, which will continue to be borderline to cautious. With the increased onshore flow for Friday, beach and surf conditions are cautious with an increased risk of rip currents at a Moderate Risk. Saturday will have winds gusting to 20 knots and also see rougher surf with wave heights 3-5 feet and a Moderate to High Risk of Rip Currents. This should improve some on Sunday, however 2-4 feet are still possible with at least a Moderate Risk of rip currents. Sunday will be improved again at 1-3 feet, however a Moderate Risk of rip currents is still possible. Be careful in the waters this weekend and follow local lifeguard advisories and warnings. Water temperatures are steady in the mid to upper 70’s still. UV Index will be High to Very High at 6-8/15.

A backdoor cold front will move across the area on Friday. High pressure will then build into the region from the North Saturday into Sunday before moving offshore early next week. A cold front is schedule to approach late Wednesday, then move through the region on Thursday.

The remainder of the week will be dry again with highs back into the 80’s and overnight lows in the 60’s and 70’s with moderate to high humidity. Unfortunately, the nice weather has also caused a lack of rain this summer. This has brought the state into early stages of a minor drought, with northern NJ worse than the rest of the state. Water, surf and beach conditions will be good inshore with offshore picking up possibly on Wednesday and continuing for Thursday and Friday. Inshore could see some gusty winds midweek to the end of the week as well, but should remain below 20 knots and seas should stay around 3 feet.

The tropics are still active, however nothing makes it much out of the Atlantic or Caribbean. Fred is a tropical depression again and will continue to remain out to sea with no impacts to the US. Another area that just exited Africa is being investigated and watched.

Have a great and safe Labor Day Weekend and thanks for reading!
