Deep Sea Sport Fishing Fort Lauderdale with Topshotfishing and Capt. Zsak
John and Mary Wales along with their friends, Mr. & Mrs. Hardson from Pennsylvania were vacationing in Fort Lauderdale getting away from the first cold snap in the north. While in Fort Lauderdale, they chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing. As John boarded the boat, he asked to do some Shark fishing and I replied that we will do some Shark fishing later in the trip.
After leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water fifteen minutes later, less than 2 miles from shore. We put two plainers down, both with double hooked Mullet strips and sea witches in front and tipped with fluorocarbon fishing line. For our inexperienced anglers, fluorocarbon lines do not have any odor and are nearly invisible underwater. This helps increase your chances of catching more fish, no matter what the species. For surface baits we went with two Ballyhoos and two Bonito strips.
As we trolled over the reefs, the anglers took turns bringing in their catch, for a total of three Kingfish, three Bonitos and two Tunas. From there I headed out to 375 ft. of water off of Fort Lauderdale for Shark fishing. We put out one surface Shark bait, one midrange and one bottom. As the two couples talked about their next adventure in Fort Lauderdale, the bottom rod bent over. The line peeled off the 80 International Reel. John was our angler and he hopped into the fighting chair to play a game of tug and war. After a 50 minute battle, a Tiger Shark broke the surface. Dave, our mate, wired in the Tiger Shark for picture taking and was released. The Tiger Shark weighed approximately 175 lbs and was estimated at 6 ½ feet.
With mission accomplished, we headed back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon to relax on the ride back to the dock at Bahia Mar, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
