TROLLING BUNKER SPOONS WITH SHIMANO TEKOTA 700 VS 600 REELS
« on: October 04, 2015, 02:13:37 PM »
Looking for 2 new reels for trolling bunker spoons. I think that I have narrowed it down to the Shimano Tekotas.... I am using the Tony Maja 8ft bunker spoon rods. I first thought to go with the Tekota 700 but now thinking that might be a bit big and thinking of getting the 600 instead. What do you guys think? I will be using #50 mono backing with #65 depth hunter power pro. Gear ratios are the same. line retrieve on the 700 is 33in and on the 600 is 25in per crank.m  Max drag on the 700 is 24lb and on the 600 it's 18lb. The 600 weighs almost half of the 700...
What do you guys think and what are you using?

If you're not planning on using wire either of those reels will work.  Don't worry about the max drag.  You don't need more than 10-12 lbs of drag to land any striper.

You may want to consider a lever drag for trolling as you can set them a bit lighter on the troll and then bump up the drag easily if you need it.

Good Fishing!

I have the 600 and have used it successfully towing bunker spoons on a Tsunami MH.

The 700 would work too but no personal experience; they are both beasts in my book.
