I had DirecTV for years and was very satisfied with them.  The biggest drawback with the satellites is bad weather, especially a snowstorm. You lose your signal for hours.  It was not bad until I bought a HDTV about 5 years ago. The signal for the HD is very sensitive with 3 transponders on the dish.  I was out on my roof a few times cleaning them off.

I switched everything over to a Verizon FIOS bundle about 18 months ago. Saving about $70 a month and they have great packages for new customers. Do it over the phone if you want to change as you can talk the rep into giving you additional stuff for free to change. They gave me HBO and Showtime for free during my 2 year contract.  You do have to check if your town is wired for FIOS.

In reality they all are bloodsuckers who will do anything to get you as a customer and stick it to you later on.   rgmn
