Upgrades to your kayak
« on: March 17, 2016, 08:46:02 AM »
Hi Everyone, slt
I am just curious to hear or see what people have done to there Kayaks over the winter..

maybe someone has come out with a an idea that will help others out.

Here are a small list of things i have done.
installed a small strip of led lights, not very bright but bright enough that i can see the line to tie a knot.

put in some extra pad eyes to secure stuff to my kayak if not you will be donating it to the sea.

bought a jet ski trailer converted it over to kayak trailer using  3 inch schedule 40 electrical conduit, some unistrut, and some truck liner spray paint.
new led trailer lights.

relocated the fish finder. new placement of battery for fish finder. upgraded the Rutter.

i will post pictures later. be safe and lets see your kayak.

Dale

I bought a new 2014 leftover OK Trident Angler13 for my first kayak a couple of weeks ago.$600 bucks, great deal. It's is the urban camo color so I'm going to give it some flourescent orange highlights to make it more visable.I made my own pvc safety flag pole painted flo orange.I used a home depot nylon carry bag and cut it down for the flag.Hopefully the boaters see me. I made a pvc kayak cart and added anchor trolley. I also made a clothesline reel anchor line to use in water less than 25ft and attached it to my milk crate.

Hi all, actually getting my Kayak ready for the season with a few upgrades (Hobie outback 2015). I added the sailing rudder which enables much better steering and tracking.
New FF Lowrance hook 4x (same as last years elite 4x chirp but better price)
Couple of gear track's for FF mount and another for my 2nd Zooka tube- the new top drop in one.
I was thinking about going LED strip but while I was at Walmart I walked by an endcap where they had this really slim flashlight led pad light hand held (.5" thick by 8" long) so I can just Velcro that to the inside wall and use it as a night light for baiting hooks ect. It cost me $12 and will save a wiring job.  It takes 8 AAA battery's.
Upgraded my ghetto paracord mirage drive leash with he real Hobie one.
Hobie bucket thing upgrade (round hatch) to the deep bucket.  $22 for $3 Tupperware - criminal.
All this was March.

Plans for April
Upgrade my 60lb deep cycle trolling motor battery to an AGM with a little less AH (35AH) will cut 30lbs. I would love a lithium but I can't justify the $500 for it (=
Crate upgrades - triple rod holder screw on accessory, mount a Scotty mount so I can plug my sea light pole and flag into it and gain a little more elevation. I was using the rear rod holder for it and this will elevate it about 1.5 feet more so it will be easier to see me and not mow me down.  Going to put my extra 1.5 ram on the crate as well for future use. New and improved bungee retaining system to hold my crate 2.0 down (need to figure out the best way - I have all the bungee cord and hardware on hand already)

Drag chute purchase to slow me down on my epic fluke paddles - I fish tidal rivers and you know how those scream.

Then I'm ready to go out and get some fish, hopefully by the last week in April I will be sea worthy and ready.

Hit me up if you want to go out. I will go on just about any adventure you could imagine.
