A unsettled week, but overall just rain and thunderstorm chances with cautious water conditions to start improving for midweek. Monday will have chances of showers and thunderstorms, mostly scattered, in the afternoon, with patchy fog in the morning. Tuesday will have shower chances during the day, with those chances decreasing throughout the day and almost nonexistent at night. Wednesday looks dry. Scattered shower chances return for Thursday and Friday, but will be regionalized. On Thursday, showers will mainly be across northern areas and Friday mainly along the coast and some northern areas. Temperatures will be seasonable. Highs will be in the 60’s to 80’s with as much as 5-10 degrees cooler at the shore. Overnight lows will be in the 50’s to 60’s, as we see the first biggest stretch of humidity moving in to the area. Water conditions will start off cautious on Monday and Tuesday for all ocean waters. Seas will be around 5 feet on Monday, Tuesday could see some gustier winds and seas to 4 feet. Rivers and bays will be mainly good, although Tuesday Afternoon into the overnight could see winds gust to 20+ knots. By Wednesday all waters will be good, except offshore will be cautious to borderline. Thursday and Friday all waters look good right now until late Friday Night when winds and seas could increase. Surf and beach conditions will be good. Monday could see surf heights to 5 feet, but average will be 2-4 feet. Tuesday will also see surf heights 2-4 feet and some gustier winds. Wednesday through Friday will have normal wave heights at 1-3 feet and winds to 15 knots. Winds could pick up later on Friday. Water temperatures are steady, with some shallower waters moving from 50’s up into the 60’s.  UV Index will be Low to Very High at 1-10/15.

A low is expected to develop off the coast of North Carolina and then slowly drift northeast, lingering just offshore of our region through Tuesday. A ridge will build over our region by mid week. The ridge will slowly shift east through the remainder of the week.

The weekend will have shower and thunderstorm chances for Saturday all day, then Sunday will be mainly dry. Highs will be in the 70’s and 80’s with overnight lows in the 60’s. Monday is looking to be like the rest of the weekend, but it is too early to really make a good call. Water, surf and beach conditions will be borderline on Saturday, then good for Sunday and Monday right now. 3 Day Memorial Weekend Outlook will be out for Thursday.

Have a great week and thanks for reading!

Re: Thunderstorms Possible Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday
« Reply #1 on: May 23, 2016, 01:37:44 PM »
In addition to scattered showers, thunderstorms are possible Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday. Nothing looks to be severe, just typical thunderstorms capable of heavy rains, dangerous lightning, and gusty winds.

Be aware of changing conditions and have a way of receiving weather alerts!
