Vessel Deployments Scheduled for Atlantic City and Ocean City Reefs

June 1, 2016

Two vessels have been slated for deployment on June 14, 2016 on the Atlantic City and Ocean City Reefs. The Atlantic City Reef site located 8.8 nautical miles east of Absecon Inlet and the Ocean City Reef is located 7.4 nautical miles southeast of Great Egg Inlet. These vessels are being sunk as part of the NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife's Artificial Reef Program.

Once the vessels are sunk they will soon become a home for 150 species of fish and marine life, a fishing ground for anglers and an underwater attraction for scuba divers. The vessels will continue to serve the fishing industry for at least another 70 years.

The locations where the vessels will be sunk are:

Atlantic City Reef: 39 14.000'    74 12.600'

Ocean City Reef: 39 09.950'    74 34.100'

Commercial fishers who have gear in this area during the time of deployment must move it or risk having it destroyed.

The target date for deployment of June 14 is subject to weather and sea conditions. For further information regarding the deployment of the vessels contact Hugh Carberry at 609-748-2022.

Commercial fishers should also note that the deployment of concrete on the Axel Carlson and Sea Girt reefs is continuing into June. See www.njfishandwildlife.com/news/2016/reefconcrete5-16.htm for details.

The 89' Tug boat, going to the AC reef, is sponsored by The Ann E. Clark Foundation and The dredge is a joint venture with sponsorship from the Ann E Clark Foundation and The Strathmere fishing and environmental Club. It will be deployed on the Ocean City reef.

If you are interested in future projects, I can be reached at aubv@aol.com

The Ann E Clark Foundation has helped support numerous additions to The Artificial Reef program, in a non parochial and non political way.  It has done so, by doing what is in the best interest of the program, this includes matching grants with organizations who have an interest  in fund raising, to sponsor a project deployment.
