Back out scouting the fluke on Saturday and warming up for the Elks tournament this coming weekend. Started out near the inlet and worked our way up north. Picked at fish in the typical fashion finding numerous 17 1/2 in fish. Got into some nicer ones and then got mugged, I mean right next (40 ft maybe??) to our boat and I'm calling him out as a true A$$
here Cast Bronze out of Brielle. I was about to cast a sinker but Pops Soul showed up on the north side and I didn't want him to see my rage!!! Anyway picked up this nice fish (24 inches on the nose- the boat rocked and fish shifted as I took pic here but def 24) and thought I had a good shot at the monthly pool here but then saw Skip had topped me later in the day.
Shifted gears Sunday and jumped on an open boat trip to find some tuna. Ran almost to the canyons. Looking for some yellowfin that had been caught in he mix with bluefins. Found a nice pod chasing bait and hooked up on a nice under fish. Changed over to chunking and bait and within 20 mins I had two bumps and hooked in to a Brut. Fought him around the boat for a while and had it within 12 feet of the surface and got to see a bluefin every bit of 60 inches, a short stalemate as it tried to turn it's head back down and the braid severed the mono at connection. It lived to see another day but a heck of a fight for me. Later got into another pod of tuna busting on the surface and hooked into our second under size fish. Great day out on the water again, glad I was on the water with the heat all weekend! Elks tourney next Saturday!!!
