A continued unsettled pattern with rain and thunderstorms, but the heat will break while water conditions will be mixed. Rain and thunderstorms are possible all weekend, with the potential for heavy rains at times. The north and western parts of the state could see excessive rainfall on Saturday with likely flooding/flash flooding. Thunderstorms are possible too with dangerous lightning and gusty winds. Overall, there is only a Generalized Risk for any type of severe weather right now. Highs will be in the upper 70’s to max upper 80’s with overnight lows in the 60’s and 70’s. It will be humid, with moderate to high humidity, but certainly not like last week. Water conditions will be generally good with some borderline conditions on Saturday and then borderline to cautious conditions on Sunday. Saturday oceans could see seas push to 3 feet on average, but will be in the 2-3 foot range, while Sunday will see seas to 4 feet with a 2-4 foot average and then 3-4 feet later in the day. Winds could get gusty to 20 knots or so later as well. Rivers and bays will be good all weekend, with just some of those gusty winds later on Sunday. Surf conditions will be good on Saturday with surf heights at 1-3 feet and a Low to Moderate Risk of Rip Currents. Sunday will have borderline conditions as winds increase and surf heights increase to 2-4 feet with a Moderate to possibly High Risk of Rip Currents. Remember, thunderstorms are possible all weekend. Thunderstorms will cause increased winds and seas locally, as well as lightning risks. Be aware of changing weather conditions and have a way of receiving weather alerts. Also, check daily Surf Zone and Rip Current Risks and follow all local beach patrols. Water temperatures have a cooled a few degrees, but still remain in the 70’s and 80’s. Surf temperatures are back in the mid 70’s, as well. UV Index will be Moderate to Very High at 4-10/15.
Low pressure near the Delmarva will strengthen as it moves east off the New Jersey coast today. Another area of low pressure will develop near the Delmarva Saturday night and slowly drift out to sea through Monday. Drier and less humid weather is expected by the middle of next week as high pressure builds over the region.
The Atlantic Tropics have come alive with two invests, 96-L and 97-L, that emerged from Africa and have the potential for development. These areas are still way out in the Eastern Atlantic, but could pose a threat to the US and will need to be watched.
Overall, next week looks mostly dry and by midweek less drier and cooler air will be in place for the remainder of the week. Monday and Tuesday could see some humidity, but temperatures will still only be in the mid 80’s. By midweek, humidity will be even less and highs in the 80’s. Overnight lows will be in the 60’s and 70’s. Water, surf and beach conditions will be borderline to cautious for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and then good for the rest of the week. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday could see good conditions as well.
