Another unsettled week with moving fronts causing mixed weather and mixed water conditions. Drier air definitely did not make it to the area this weekend, in fact, though temperatures were cooler, the humidity was extremely high making it very muggy and sticky and quite uncomfortable most of the weekend. Rain and thunderstorms held true, with flooding in many areas. Some areas are currently seeing some later afternoon/evening thunderstorms again with some heavier rain! Monday and Tuesday will continue the rain and thunderstorms chances with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Thunderstorms will be capable of heavy rains causing flooding, dangerous lightning, and gusty winds. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday Day look dry. Friday Night will usher back in chances of showers and thunderstorms carrying over into Saturday. Temperatures will be in the upper 70’s to upper 80’s, even low 90’s by Friday. Monday and Friday will have the highest temperatures and also the most humidity. Tuesday will have less humidity and by Wednesday even less humidity staying for Thursday. Overnight lows will range from the 60’s to 70’s. This midweek will also see relief from the upper 80’s and 90’s, even though it is short-lived! Water conditions will not be the best. Monday will have good to borderline conditions for almost all areas. Tuesday will start good conditions for rivers and bays through Thursday. Ocean waters will be borderline to cautious for Tuesday through Friday. Rivers and bays will see borderline to cautious conditions for later Friday. Seas will be the main problem, seas to 5 feet inshore and 6-7 feet midshore to offshore. Winds should only be an issue later in the week on Friday and possibly to start the week on Monday. Surf and beach conditions will be good on Monday, Thursday, and Friday and borderline to cautious on Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday and Wednesday will have surf heights 2-5 feet with Moderate to High Risks of Rip Currents. The rest of the week will have surf heights at 1-3 feet with a Low to Moderate Risk of Rip Currents. Monday, Tuesday, and later Friday will also have thunderstorm chances. Thunderstorms will not only be dangerous due to lightning, but will also increase wind and sea forecasts locally! Water temperatures are steady in the 70’s and low 80’s. UV Index will be Moderate to Very High at 3-10/15.

A stationary front will remain over our region tonight before it slowly starts to slide south through the day tomorrow. High pressure builds over our region mid week, then shifts off shore by Thursday. The next cold front is due to arrive Friday or Saturday.

The weekend will have chances of showers and thunderstorms on Saturday and Sunday looks mostly dry. It will also bring back the 90’s with higher humidity inland and 80’s at the shore. Overnight lows in the 60’s and 70’s. Water conditions will be borderline to cautious on Saturday and improved for Sunday.

The Atlantic Tropics still has an invest, 97L.  96L has dissipated, but 97L has a 40% chance of formation in the next 2 days and a 70% chance of formation in 5 days. This system will most likely go off into the GOM and move from there. It still needs to be watched. There are several other disturbances on Africa, that could emerge into the Atlantic and potentially develop.

Have a great week and thanks for reading!

Re: Monday Severe Weather/Thunderstorms & Rain/Flooding
« Reply #1 on: August 01, 2016, 01:36:02 PM »
Scattered to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible today with some areas already seeing storms. Most of the state is in a Generalized Risk with Western and Southwestern parts of the state in a Marginal Risk. Many northern parts of the state are in Flood Watches as well, still. Storms will be capable of heavy rains causing flooding, dangerous lightning, and damaging winds. Beaches from Sandy Hook south to Little Egg Inlet have a Moderate Risk for Rip Currents today.

Be aware of changing weather conditions and have a way of receiving weather alerts.

Re: Coastal Flood Advisory
« Reply #2 on: August 02, 2016, 07:13:02 PM »
The NWS Philly has issued Coastal Flood Advisories for Coastal & Marine Areas of Atlantic, Burlington, Cape May, Cumberland, Monmouth, Middlesex, & Ocean Counties.

Minor Coastal Flooding is expected with tonight's high tides due to the New Moon. Tides are expected to run around a foot above High Astronomical Tide (HAT) levels, which will cause minor flooding. Areas that are prone to astronomical tide flooding and low lying areas should expect flooding. Tides will be above normal on the ocean fronts and any flooding there should be minimal, but flooding along bays and rivers will be more prominent with the lack of structure to hold water back!

Be prepared for flooding if you live or travel in these areas and avoid flood waters!
