Fishing Fort Lauderdale Happy Day Today

Fishing Fort Lauderdale with Topshotfishing and Capt. Zsak

Mike and Barbara Simms from Pennsylvania were down in Fort Lauderdale on a convention and decided to charter the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  Winds were out of the east at 8 mph with blue skies and temperatures in the low 90’s. As Mike boarded the boat, I asked him if there was anything special he wanted to target – and his response was “fish – any kind, any size”.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore.  We put down two #8 plainers – one with a blue and pink sea witch and the other with a chartreuse sea witch, both with double hooked  Bonitos strips  For surface baits we went with three Bonito strips and a squid teaser.  We trolled zig zagging the reefs ranging from 80 ft. in depth of water out to 180 ft.   Barbara was our first angler and reeled in an 11 lb. Kingfish.  From there Mike and Barbara took turns reeling in fish.

It was Mike’s turn to reel in the next fish when one of the plainer rods tripped.  Our mate, Dave, reset the plainer immediately and it tripped again – something is playing with the bait!!! On the fourth time the plainer rod tripped, the fish got hooked.  After 15 minutes of reeling in and out of fishing line, Dave grabbed a hold of the trace to wire the fish in.  The black shadow appeared – a Sailfish on the plainer rod which never jumped!!!!!  Pictures were taken and the Sailfish was released to fight again.

With one Sailfish, three Barracudas, four Kingfish and four Bonitos it was time to head back to the dock.  Mike and Barbara retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar located at 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
