Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Topshotfishing and Capt. Zsak

Derek Gochenour and his dad from Washington State chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL.  Derek is a charter boat captain and has his own charter boat business – the name of his boat is the Predator.  Derek told me that he researched different websites of fishing boat charter businesses in Fort Lauderdale and chose us due to our excellent reviews.  Temperature was in the high 60’s to low 70’s with winds blowing north at 10 mph.

We stopped and picked up a dozen live Goggle Eyes from T&T Bait to be used later when flying the kite.  Fifteen minutes later we were fishing in Fort Lauderdale at the sea buoy in 120 ft. of water, 1.8 miles from shore.  We started off trolling with two #8 plainers down – one with a pink and white sea witch and the other with a chartreuse sea witch – both with double hooked Bonito strips.  For surface baits with went with two Ballyhoos and two Bonito strips.

As we headed towards one of our 34 artificial wrecks in Fort Lauderdale, FL, the father and son anglers rotated bringing in their catches – a total of 4 Kingfish and some Spanish Mackerels with two missed Black Fin Tunas.

It was now time to do some live bait kite fishing so we put out two kites with two live Goggle Eyes from each kite.  Right long!!! – Sailfish!!! As the bill and dorsal showed itself.  The Sailfish took a shot at the bait – hooked up!!!  The 7 ft. Sailfish exited the water and tail-walked to the north of Fort Lauderdale.  Derek hopped into the fighting chair while Dave our mate did the adjustments for him – the fight was on!!!  Twenty minutes later the Sailfish was brought to the side of the boat – pictures were taken and the fish was released to fight again.    Great job Derek!!!

From there we went Snapper fishing over an airplane wreck in 325 ft. of water and got six Vermilion Snappers.  Great eating fish for the dinner table!!

It was time to head back to the dock at Bahia Bar located at 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.   The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock.   While at the dock, the fish were fillet for the anglers for their dinner that night.
