matching a pole to a reel
« on: January 12, 2017, 12:13:30 AM »
Hey all. New to this site. Haven't surf fished in over ten years Used cheap set ups when I did go. Retired now and want to start fishing again. Hope you guys can help out. Just picked up a St Croix Triumph TSRS90M2 9' Surf Rod. Need to pair it with a decent spinning reel that wont break the bank. Have a Shimano Bait Runner 4500b (still in the box)but feels heavy on the Croix. Want to throw jigs, Shads, poppers etc. Any suggestions in the range of 120 - 150 dollars would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks for reading.

Look at the Penn Spinfishers in the 5500 or 6500 size

I got a 9' star rod last summer for the same uses and settled on the spinfisher 4500 with no regrets. Not the lightest around, but not to bad. I went with 20lb power pro.

bought a Quantum Boca BSP60PTsD last spring on sale for $90. Has treated me very well last season. fairly light to cast all day. The best advice I can give is either wait for the fishing show in March or go to a shop and play with them to see what works for you
