I had a successful shake down trip last week and yesterday I had my Friday crew's first trip of the season.
We left the dock at 8. On board were permanent crew members Naked Eddie, Jeff and Big Dave. Also had substitutes Andy and Bob G to replace the missing members of the Friday crew.
After clearing Shark River inlet we turned to port. Had our eyes open for bunker as were cruised north to the Rattlesnake. Did not see a splash all the way to the snake.
At the snake we set our first drift and immediately got into small sea bass and a couple of short fluke. I quickly boated the first keeper sea bass of the day. A short while later Andy cranks in a keeper fluke at 18 3/4".
Stayed in the same area all day as we had fairly steady action with the fluke and sea bass (most were short and sent home with a note to mom and dad to join us
, didn't work).
Fished till 1pm and headed back to the barn. Boat cleaning and fish cleaning chores were completed and all went home with some fish for dinner.
Total keepers for the say was 4 sea bass and 11 fluke. Largest fluke for the day was my 25" pulling the scale down to 6 1/4#.
Nice to be in the water and fishing again. Will be at it again Sunday and Monday.
