While on vacation in Wildwood all of last week with the family and unable to fish I had been daydreaming of getting in on the midshore BFT bite that had been happening. This week is very hectic but, my schedule allowed a window yesterday morning after completion of a 24 hour shift. I put together a crew consisting of my sister (has 2 bum shoulders but, loves getting out on the water) and a local old salty friend.
We left the dock at 0800 after fueling and headed towards the Corvallis area. About halfway between the Resor and Corvallis we found some life and it looked fishy so, we put the spread out for a bit without a sniff. Based on previous reports we decided to move east towards the chicken (good move). We got to the area and put out the spread of a HEAVY WWWWB blue Schute with ballyhoo, spreader bars, things that go flop and cedar plugs.
We trolled for a bit when the Schute got bit and didn't come tight. Later we found fish pushing water and headed over. Trolled through and picked one 25# BFT. Lines back in and trolled there area with nothing. We kept it up until mid afternoon and found fish busting the surface on a weed patch. We trolled through and 5 lines got hit. In the melee we managed one 25# bft and lost an aprox 40# yellowfin boat side. On the initial hit we lost a floppy thing (I think a line got wrapped on another line or around the pole when it came out of the inside rigger). We searched around some more and pulled the plug around 1700 stopping at the resor for a little.
Conditions were great and we ended the day with some meat for the table.
