Sinkers
« on: December 21, 2007, 04:57:48 AM »
All types of sinkers out there. Anyone give a brief idea of which is good for what? Bottom fishing is pretty straight forward. How about surf and drifting?

Thanks
Frank

Pyramid for the surf (same as diamond?)
Hurricane and Hatteras also for the surf.  I think these two hold better than the pyramid.

MGM, nice link.  I didn't think of looking there.  I use Do It molds exclusuvely.  But I don't buy them from Do It.  I get them almost ten dollars cheaper from Barlow's Tackle.  Shipping is cheaper too.

Takes about three or four days for the item to arrive.

I usually go for the egg sinkers while drifting.  Just makes it a cleaner rig in general, in my opinion.

The only draw back to that is when you have to change weight you have to re-rig.  Other than that, it is a good sinker.  I usually use them for eeling stripers.

My buddy in Florida makes egg sinker rigs up on about a two foot leader.  He then only has to change the leader with the egg already on it.  Unsnap both ends and insert the leadered egg sinker onto your running line and your fishing rig on the other end.  Too much trouble for me to go thru all of that.  That's why I use the fish finder rig.

i heard from an old sharpie once that he drifted with the diamond sinkers because it would stir up the bottom as it passes the Fluke to wake him up, then along comes the bait. I don't use this method though, but it sounds like it would work.  The only problem I have with it is the feel shouldn't be as pronounced..

There is nothing wrong with that.  Just think of all the info you are gathering up to impress the guys at the tackle shops.

I'm waiting for hooks from them now.  Should be here Monday.  Pretty quick with their deliveries and the price isn't bad.   t^
