Holgate 1/8
« on: January 08, 2008, 08:07:33 PM »
Today was my first Surf Fishing trip! Paul picked me up and we headed down to Holgate to give it a shot. We stopped at Fishermans Headquarters for a report and picked up some Clam. We both started with Clam and Paul ended up throwing some lures too but no takers so we packed up and headed to Barnegat Light and took a look around but decided to head back to the mainland and get some Lunch. We'll give it hell this spring for sure. TT^

Thanks for heading down today Paul and thanks for the lessons on fishing the suds! Can't wait to do it again. TT^

Any time Bob.  I enjoyed fishing a place that I have not tried but a beach is a beach.  The tide was very low and you could pick out the holes and the rips very easily.

If there were fish there we would have been in the right spot.  I think we can say that the run if you can call it a run is over and the winter catch will be sparse this year.

Time to turn my attention to the studio and complete more paintings, tie up some flies and teasers for thew spring runs and write a few articles.

Bob always a  pleasure.  Next time we have to get you onto IBSP.

Happy Catching

Paul

I'm starting to get a complex here.  Maybe I should slow down.  Fishing has been in the toilet lately.  Man I can't remember when it has been so bad.  I truly believe the stripers made a left hand turn this year and by passed our whole coast line.  I guess they took the express south. 5hrug

Oh well, I hope the spring run is good this year.  My next outing will be Friday ti IBSP with a neighbor who I have promised to take fishing all last year and never could hook up with him, SO looks like Friday is the day.

Man is this frustrating or what.  I have to go and buy something.

Paul

Paul,

I saw a friend of mine just before Christmas.  He is one of the best surf fisherman I have ever met.  This guy has caught not one, but three stripers over 50# and several over 40#  from the beach!  Although he didn't get out all that much this fall/winter, he pretty much confirmed your thoughts.  He said the bass fishing never really got hot this year.  He didn't know why, but said that sometimes you just get a year like that. :P

From your posts we all can see that you know what you're doing in the suds.  So don't get down on yourself.  It's just been a lousy season for everyone. :-\

But look at it this way.  Spring is just around the corner! ;D

Boy I can't wait.

I will be attacking the suds with a vengeance this year.

The Expedition is all ready just had a bunch of stuff overhauled (wheel bearings, tierods, seals, etc).  I am thinking of putting a front receiver hitch to make things a little easier with the rod/cooler rack.  I like it in the back but in the cold weather it is nice to sit in the warm veh and watch the rods in the angeled holders.

Happy Catching

There ya go... rofla rofla rofla

I'm getting lazy in my old age I guess.  I like my creature comforts though, it would be nice to watch and wait from the comforts of the Expedition. 5hrug
