First Fluke of the year
« on: May 28, 2020, 09:40:24 PM »
I left Irwin's marina today on the Navesink River and started fishing by the Oceanic Bridge.  It was low tide and about 6 boats fishing in the area.  Just sea weed.  I asked a couple of the boats and they said they had mostly shorts.  One said he had a keeper.  Went on the Bahr's and past the Sea Streak but no bites at all.  Went by the pound nets and nothing.  Bug Light the same.  Saw 3 party boats ( Atlantic Star, Dorothy B and Elaine B) in Flynn's Knoll on the western edge.  Nothing going for them or me.  Finally I decided to go to the Eastern side of Knoll by the red buoy.  The drift was north and I got my first bite which was a 18 1/4 inch fluke.  I used a head of squid with a Gulp.  It started to rain and was getting rough so I started to go back.  Fished by the Ocean Bridge but nothing.  But I was so happy to catch a keeper.

The water was very muddy.  I forgot to mention that the depth was about 17.5 feet.  I think you have to fish below 18 ft to have any luck.

Awesome ! Glad you got one ! Thanks for the report  t^
Give a man a fish, and he can eat for a day. But teach a man how to fish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years.
