HUNTING A FAMILY TRADITION

HUNTING A FAMILY TRADITION

The family that hunts together stays together. For many decades the Harbison family has done just that.My wife joins the tradition:We love to share a good thing:Buck & Boar Hunting Club... The Best of the Best.My wife, Thelma, and I were members for twenty years. The wild boar hunting was absolutely outstanding:And the camp life was fantastic. We often had huge parties at our camp:Our daughter, Dee:Dee's daughter, Danielle and her daughter, our great grand daughter, Delilah:Last year I celebrated birthday # 78 with Two Guys And A Hog:December 8, 2020, in celebration of BIG Birthday # 79...let's do it again! As we get close to Two Guys And A Hog we pass part of Florida history, Otter Creek. In 2010 Otter Creek had a population of 134; in 2020 the population exploded to 135. This is a Florida lost in history. Otter Creek has its own post Office, and one small family owned general store, Hershel's. My daughter likes Hershel's good old-time southern hospitality and food:One more 'big' city and we will be in the land of the hogs. Chiefland, the Gem of the Swannee Valley, with its population of 2,247 is much larger than Otter Creek. Let's make a pit-stop at Taco Bell. To talk about good is to talk about Taco Bell's Toasted Cheddar Chalupa:Time to get serious about hog hunting:Talk about serious. A hogs number one weapon is his sense of smell. Hunter's Natural Pine & Fresh Earth Cover Scent Wafers work well and can be used over and over for years:One of the best guides in the business, Francisco, does his thing. Feed them & they will come... We hope! The smaller meat hogs race in:The BIG Boys wait until it's almost dark:They out-smarted me today. Tomorrow morning I am going to show them who the boss is. Remember when we said, 'To talk about good is to talk about Taco Bell's Toasted Cheddar Chalupa'? For dinner let's follow up with potato salad by Dee, a thick-flavorful ham steak, Florida orange juice, and the very best Claxton Fruit Cake:It may be rough-going, but some way some how, I will make it.Even the cold will not stop me:December 8, my birthday. 7:30 A.M.  The temperature has plunged all the way down to 30 degrees:My heaviest-of-the heavy Carhartt jacket does its thing. The hogs are doing their thing. This is... In comes daddy big boy. The bright Florida sun is doing its thing on my Nikon scope. It's hard to see.I aim very carefully and, with a mighty roar and the kick of a mule, send that massive 405 gr 45-70 on its way. Hog down... Birthday # 79 hog is down and out, and he is one to be proud of:Florida's four million plus senior citizens is second only to California. Many of us are not able to do the things we once did. That does not mean we must give up hunting. Francisco's Two Guys And A Hog makes sure of that:Now this is really roughing it; before Tampa it's a pit-stop at Arby's for a 1/2 pound roast beef sandwich:Watch the shot in this in-the-woods action video:

Congrats on getting that 195 pound hog for your birthday present.  slt  chrz  I was also glad that you did not get frostbite in those Arctic conditions you had.  hhppy

No offense meant, but good roast beef is not suppose to be gray.  Red with a little blood dripping is perfect in my eyes.  cfzd

Thanks!  Almost froze.
Going again December 22 & 23.
Tuesday looks terrible; Wednesday a little better:

70 is better; looks like it will be a few more days before we hit even 80.

Love Arby's roast beef; have been enjoying it for years.
