Reel Cleaning/Servicing
« on: January 08, 2008, 10:54:39 AM »
I'll be the first to admit that when it comes to cleaning/servicing or breaking down a reel I'm all thumbs and have no clue as it what I am doing. As such, I've always sent my reels (anywhere from 20-40) out for servicing during the winter months. In years past, I brought them to Steven's in Long Branch and believe it or not there was no charge (I did however give him a nice tip). Unfortunately, with the yuppie-fication of Long Branch the owner could no longer afford his rent and closed shop 2 years ago.

I'm now in search of a tackle shop in the northern and north-central part of the state to provide this service at a fair cost per reel. This year I probably have less than 20 reels that I would like serviced/cleaned/lubed etc.

I was recommended to a shop (Michael's) on Staten Island but haven't heard back from them as far as what they charge.

Any recommendations?

I have heard GREAT things about robs rodnreel. I just dropped off 7 reels to him (10 each to take apart and clean). when I get those back, I will have more to bring him.

He is in Sayerville and noticed he has an NJSWF sticker on his truck :)
