Something's fishy as Europe dines. This is a sad situation ???
 http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/01/14/europe/fish.php

Fish is now the most traded animal commodity on the planet, with a global turnover of more than 100 million tons each year. Europe has suddenly become the world's largest market for fish, each year worth more than €14 billion. Europe's appetite has grown as its native fish stocks have shrunk, so that 60 percent of fish sold in Europe now needs to be imported, according to the European Union.

Just goes to show, people/companies will do anything to turn a buck.  The companies who are depleting the supplies will only find something else to make money on when they run us out of fish.

I just read the article and it is unbelievable.   Why aren't any of the so called environmental groups targeting any of these groups that are decimating the fish supply and leave us alone.  Or are they just here to practice their socialistic ideology on our way of life where they are cognizant of the fact that we are vulnerable to pressure when it comes to endangering a species.

I don't believe they can be so stupid and not see the whole picture.  We are small potatoes compared to what these ships are capable of doing to an entire species.

Damn...

Aren't the enviros the ones who eat a lot of fish because red meat is not healthy for you?  Seems to me the enviros are the same people who are the health nuts too.   5hrug

Did anyone see the 60 Minutes segment this week on tuna fishing in Italy?  It's insane how they trap hundreds of thousands, rapid freeze them and then sell them all in Japan.  Huge companies like Mitsubishi are bleeding the Mediterranean dry and local captains can't find any fish.

It was a great segment on there.  Luckily, I caught a promo for it and set it on my DVR, since the Giants game was on.
