Another fine job by the Coasties! 

I couldn't figure out what they were doing when they were first at the boat.  Just standing around and not getting the people off of the boat immediately.  Then I read the report that goes with the video and found that there was also a dog on board.  So, I figure they were probably trying to coax the dog out of the cabin.

both videos,read reports that went with them,but doesn't say what caused them to take on water.both seem to be in calm waters.great job by the coast guard,there response to trouble is always quick.

The second video shows how difficult it can be to get someone who is in the water onto a boat.  Expecially an older person or an overweight person (Damn, I resemble both of them descriptions  )

If you have a swim platform, great.  Just consider your prop when anyone is in the water near the stern of the boat.  You don't want to take someones leg off trying to rescue them.

If you don't have a platform or a boarding ladder, you can devise a ladder out of a length of line.  Put a loop into the line and tie the line off onto a cleat having the loop in the water.  Bring the person in the water over to the line and he can put his foot in the loop and lift himself up enough so you can 'roll' him into the boat if necessary.

Great tips, Joe!  The second video really hits home here, as it took place just a few months ago in calm waters just a little off the Barnegat Inlet.  Always gotta be prepared for anything.

Having PFDs in reach when underway is a big plus too.

Great insight Joe.  It almost makes you thing that the underwater fittings were the culprit.  This goes back to the discussion we have a while back on plastic fittings and that changing over to stainless steel or brass would be a wise move to make...

Nice Piece Joe, Makes everbody have a reality check. We always have to be ready for anything and ACT on it.A Big responsibility.
I have seen too many drunken A.H. who have no idea what risk they put everybody at, too many people ridding on the bow sitting under the rail with No vest on,too many overloading the boat, too many with their heads up their a-- when fueling up. I think this mantatory certificate requirement is a good start in helping educating all in the safety and prevention.
