Shrewsbury Rocks question
« on: February 06, 2008, 04:46:50 PM »
Could someone please describe how to get to the SHREWSBURY ROCKS from the A.H.? I have an idea where this place is but some clarification would be appreciated. I only get to make a couple trips a year from Pa. so going on a joy ride to explore the area is hard to do when I'm trying to keep my lines in the water longer than the boat ride. I'VE heard about this place over and over again and would like to add it to my list of spots to try. THANKS     CHUCK

go to the tip of hook, drive down the beach until you see the parking lot of boats.. If you have a fish finder, you will see the bottom structure change.
Fish out of Toms River NJ.
Call Nick for open boat, 973-417-5756, or on Channel 68.

As I recall they are about 7 miles south of the tip of the hook.  As you travel down the beach you will see a high rise apartment building, off to the right at an angle to the beach, the rocks are in line with the angle of the building starting a couple of hundred feet off the beach.  Unless you are the first boat there you will see boats anchored up in a line along the rocks which are 10+ feet below the surface depending on the tide.  There usually are other boats trolling in a big loop around the anchored boats.  Do not run through the boats at high speed or intrude into their chum slicks.  The rocks extend out at an angle to a buoy and then continue to a second buoy.  They are usually marked on most charts with the buoys showing.  You obviously will see them on your fishfinder when you run over them.  If you know anything about the area they are just north of Seven Presidents County Park in Long Branch.  I always look for the highrise and line up with it.

Go around Sandy Hook and travel south.  Run about a mile off the beach and that will put you pretty much on course for the inner buoy.

Here is a chart.  When you open the chart, you can choose the chart size and zoom.  The Shrewsbury Rock is in the area of the red spot on the water between Sea Bright and Monmouth Beach.

THANKS FOR THE REFERENSES TO THESE OTHER SITES! VIEWING THE FISHFINDER AND SEEING A COLOR PHOTO OF WHAT YOU ARE ACTUALLY LOOKING AT IS PRETTY COOL!

You should now, or very soon have access to the forum which has a VERY nice list of well known, local hotspots with the rocks being one of them.

Use the view scale drop down window.  change to a different scale and it will redraw to that scale.   t^

It's not really close to the nude beach. Several miles away.
