You Know When Fishing is Slow When ...
« on: April 21, 2007, 12:27:44 AM »
Hi All,

You know when fishing is slow when the Hook, line and Sinker Section of the Asbury Park Press has only 10 pages and 3 full pages are ads and 1 1/2 pages (including the entire front page) is about the clam as bait.

I do like to read John Geiser's articles. Also, start paying attention to the NMFS and the fluke "recruitment" numbers from 2006 which are still not published. These are a precursor to the 2008 quota.

I am hitting the beach (IBSP) on Sunday or Monday. I hope to see Paul there if I go Sunday.

Anyone else heading there?

I will be fishing the back bay looking for stripers along places like the sod banks and maybe through out some clams on the oceans side (not sure yet).

Guys - start looking out for the weakfish!

Have a great weekend,

Capt. Ed

There is nothing better than a weakfish on a fly rod hitting a homemade ultra grass shrimp pattern...Yeah Man...

Hope to see you out there Sunday Ed.  Just look for the white hair dude with the sh!& eat'in grin drooling with anticipation.

Hi Paul,

I will be the gray haired guy with the green Chevy Silverado pickup with rod racks on the front. I will look for your truck. Hopefully I can make it Sunday rather than Monday.

I will have the confused face as there is so much I always want to try there ...

If you get time, there is extremely reliable reports of stripers under the Mantoloking Bridge on 4" or so storm shads.

Thanks,

Ed

I read reports about the fence.  Is it still there or did they finally take it down?

Hi Paul,

Still there. I called the Mayor's office to find out what that is all about. I also called Pete at Pell's but he was not in. I will stop by there tomorrow to get his take on the situation.

Jason and Tommy from the shop said that there is an opening to get through. I'll check.

Best wishes,

Ed
