I thought they were self priming.  Are you getting air into the line from a leak some where?

at the end of last season, they had to replace my pump, when I put the boat back in the water, it had a ton of air in the line.  The marina did winterize it this past season, so I don't know what to expect when I put it in the water next month.  I just wanted to stay on top of the game since i have the boat in my driveway at this time.

I guess the best way to prime it again would be to take off the nozzle and put water back down the wrong way and then start the pump.  I would hate to suck on the hose and wind up with a belly full of saltwater.   :P

The washdown pump should be self priming.

It's usually just a centrifugal (impeller) pump like a bilge pump. Make sure the inlet is submerged (s/b below waterline) and clear and the outlet is also clear-- should work like a champ

Nick I have a Seaswirl and Yes they are self Priming, They are a Diaprham pump. I think mine is a Master Blaster. Mine was rigged with a valve since both pumps Livewell and wash down work off of the same intake. Mine also has a Strainer prior to the pumps to catch a debris that may be sucked up through the intake. The the Strainer has a Quarter turn twist cap  on it that is made from clear plastic, so you can see into the strainer basket. I believe there is an "o" ring gasket on the cap of the strainer. Hope this Helps or explains things, this is the way My Seaswirl is set up mine is a 2001  t^
