NEW FLOUNDER REGS FOR 2007

Well, for those of you that may not have been at the meeting last night or have not seen the paper this morning. I was at the meeting and the Flounder regs go as follows: 8 fish @ 17" from May 26th to Sept 10th.

I was torn on the matter. None of the options were good. I did not want to see the size go to 171/2" Because if we have an overage next year then we would be in a position like NY. Fish size 18" or more. But I did want to see a longer season. But there was not a option with 17" fish and a long season. Guess you can't have your cake and eat it too. The option that was adopted is the lesser of all the evils.

I still think the entire thing is a scam. IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED. IT IS BROKEN!!

Youre right it is broken.. I will never understand the one sidedness of it all. The comercial guys get 60% of the quota and can keep much shorter fish.. When will this balance out some?? When is the last time commercial guys ahd an increase in size of fish??

at least we have a fishin season it could have been alot worse ,it sucks that we lost the fall when they school up

There is not a single person that did not get screwed. If it was not at the beginning of the season its at the end. As far as size, its going to be a big challenge to put together a reasonable catch of 17" Fluke for the box In any back bay location.

But your right at least we can fish. There is always that chance.

Do you know what is a big bite in the butt. The commercial guys are still taking a 14" Fluke. All of the thousands of pounds they bring to the dock and goes out to restaurants, super markets so forth and so on. Does all of that fish get consumed? I'll bet one hell of a lot of what comes to the dock is wasted. Put in the GARBAGE.

Ill tell you why the commercial guys get to keep most of the catch.... Because they stick together...  And most of them claim the fluke as by catch.  What's their reason for being hurt if the regs change?  Lose of income to everyone (employees, business and state collecting taxes on all three) 

The state knows that if you Pee on the commercial guys, the entire state of commercial guys will complain.   If you Pee on the rec guys, only a select few will attend the meetings and complain.  The way the state sees it, if there are 5 million rec fisherman and only 1/2% show up to complain then the other 99.5% must agree with the state.

Until we can prove that the rec fishing industry can hurt the state's pockets if we boycot fishing then we will never be heard.
