3/28 Flounder on the Angela Rose
« on: March 28, 2008, 08:48:52 PM »
Fished a five man charter today, only four showed up, with Captain Anthony and Mate Andrew today. It was supposed to rain but we only had a few sprinkles on the way down and when we returned to the dock.  Day was cold but sunny most of the day.  We fished the Mantoloking Bridge, a short 20 minute ride from the dock.  Captain Anthony is sailing from a different location during flounder season to be closer to his prime fishing area and it was great to be fishing after a 20 minute ride.  The boat is a great fishing platform and there was plenty of room for us. Only made two drops within 100 feet and a few adjustments. We finished up with 34 fish with only one throw back.  Two of us had four each and Mike and I had 10 each.  The Captain and mate added the rest.  My fish bit on sandworms plus one on a worm/clam combo.  No grubs or other trinkets as Captain Anthony advised they were not working at that location this year.  Mate Andrew was great and always right there with the net or to help with anything you needed.  The fish bit in waves of two to three throughout the day.  There were several boats around us and the number grew as the weatherman was found to be wrong again.  Did not see many caught on the other boats, must have been the dogfood chum which Captain Anthony makes with a secret recipe. Some of the ingredients are obvious but there are some secret things that he will not tell you about.  All in all a great day fishing, catching, boat, crew and company. Hope to go again this Sunday.
Bob

It was a great day with Capt Anthony and mate Andy.

Not too many times have I had the luck to "catch the limit"....the night before, I watched too many weather reports only to find out that they were wrong again.

Capt. Anthony runs a first class operation, and the "secret chum" really worked today. TT^ TT^

Been trying to get out with Capt. Anthony since last summer. I finally got my chance yesterday, and it was worth the wait!  There was a group of almost 10-20 boats at any given time near the bridge trying to pick up flounder, and they were all failing miserably while we were scoring hit after hit thanks to the aforementioned "secret chum."

The personal touch, advice and general joking around and having a good time made this a GREAT day of fishing, and I will definitely be out with Capt. Anthony again soon.

Anthony, mate Andrew, and Anthony's Dad all took pictures, so I'm sure they'll find their way on here eventually.  The one picture I have is one my Dad (who came as well) took of me at the dock holding up my 2nd place pool flounder.

Bob, MGM, it was nice meeting the both of you, as well, although next time I'd rather not be outfished so much!  TT^
