chumming question...
« on: April 06, 2008, 08:11:00 PM »
For flounder fishing, when chumming from a boat, using a chum pot, do I let it lay on the bottom or higher in the water? Off the stern? or the bow? Does it matter?

Thanks
Ross

1 off the bow, 1 or 2 off the stern, right on the bottom.

def. at the bottom. I also heard stories that if you put some hooks with bait tied to the chum box, you will hook up

That's the ace in the hole. Hooks on the chum pot.  TT^

Yes, I've read about that, I guess you just thread a rig through the holes in the chum pot?

I'm going out on Tuesday with a couple of buddies, I'll post afterwards....

I'm going to drop so much chum, the fish may explode!! ;D

Bouncing it and stirring up the bottom is a good technique also " So I have I read"

When I was a kid and me and pops used to fish headboats for flounder (before his boat was in the water), we would bring our own chum pot with us on the party boats (and ties rigs to them of course).

Why not just hook a chum pot to every line in the water? 5hrug
A good day of fishing is better than a bad day of fishing. A bad day of fishing is better than a good day of work. That means work sucks!

Altho I have never seen one in person or used one, they do have small ones that clip to your line.

I typically use three, and keep em' where the guys are fishing.  The only time I put one in the bow is if the current is REALLY running hard.  Cracked clams, clam sheels, and mussels scattered around teh boat also can work wonders.

Of course the pots should stay on the bottom, and they should be shook every 15-20 minutes depending on the bite
