Got to the boat at 6:50 and it was fairly crowded.....31 guys all chomping at the bit to take advantage of the weather report.
It was pick, pick and certainly not as good as last Thursday.
Capt Mike drifted on the Keyport flats all day as the wind was non-existent, the water mirror smooth; and the current moved us along "slooowly". We were joined by Capt John and the AS as well as a flotilla of small boats including 14 ft jon boats. Even saw a kayak using another boat at its mother ship. Didn't see alot of net action on the boats around us.
The few times we anchored, the pick was not as good as on the drift. I guesstimate 35-40 keepers caught. High hook was 6 fish and the pool fish going about 2 lbs.
Looks like worms worked best, but mussels and clams also produced.
I managed 3 nice keepers and 1 short, the largest being 1.9 on a digital scale and a close runner up to the pool (but close only counts in horse shoes). Capt and mates worked hard to put us on the meat.
My railmate caught the largest, fattest sundial I've ever seen. Couldn't see through it at all.
I tipped my offerings today with Gulp! maggots that I had in my trout bag from last year. Nice yellow color and about the size of a fat maggot. You never know!
Next two weeks should be the peak of the season.
