Barnegat Bay is loaded with blues...
« on: May 03, 2008, 12:18:23 AM »
If you can get out to the back part of IBSP in the bay itself and the flats the reports coming in have the local blues in very heavy concentrations.

What is working?  Just about everything.  Jigs, plugs, poppers, rattletraps you name it it has been working today.

One person mentioned they were so thick in one spot that it was almost impossible to get your bait to the bottom before a blue was hooked up.

Wow, that is great.  I still bet it was on an incoming tide or slack so just keep that in mind if you go out tomorrow.

If I hear anything new I will post as soon as possible.

Happy Catching

Good luck, I hope he weather is good for you.  I think the afternoon is suppose to be OK.  I will be doing a bunch of honey do's.  If I get them out of the way I might try in the early evening.

If you are going to use fresh bait clams and mullet are a good bet.  If you are using artificial s they say to try anything yellow first and go from there.

Happy Catching

Hey Guys,

I am thinkin about driving up to Barneget area again either tomorrow or Tuesday to try and finally land an edible keepable fish. I am not very familiar with the surrounding area, any suggestions on a place I should try that is fairly easy to get to, as well as a place that is productive?
Thanks

Yea a BLT sounds good right about now.

Sorry Sean, the inlet just at slack tide right before the incoming has been producing nicely.  If you are on the south side of the inlet you could try at the bulkhead right at the end of the road.  If you are adventitious walk out onto the jetty anywhere past mid way.  I have to warn you though it is a good walk out there.

Right now just about everything has been working, clams, chunks of bunker, mullet, teasers, bucktails, Gibbs poppers, well you get the idea.

If you hit it just right that clam might turn into a good sized striper.  A 32" striper was caught on Friday off the North Jetty

6/0 circle hooks have been the size used by many out there.  I will be out there tomorrow morning with my neighbor, we will be on the N. Jetty and like you hoping for a good day catching and not just fishing.

Good luck.

Thanks Paul,

Looks like tomorrow will be the day for me as long as the weather holds up. I will give the Jetty a try, I am not afraid of the long walk so much as I am afraid of an empty cooler!!

Hi Cmwr99,

Welcome to the site.  First where do you live maybe the Barnegat Inlet is a little to far and another inlet is closer.  If you are on or near LBI it would be a good choice.

Except for today it seems.  I went out there and the water was really ripping through like a freight train.  I could not hold bottom with 8 oz of lead on.

Plus most of the B&T here are all out of clams  :'( tried mullet and no go.

Oh well I will be posting a report later.

Happy Catching
