Sea Bass 5/07/08
« on: May 07, 2008, 05:12:50 PM »
Nice bite today, limits for all on sea bass heaviest fish 2 lbs. Weather was calm hard to anchor so... we drifted.  The lite winds held us against the tide. perfect conditions. No Fluke caught but we had a 6 lb tog and a 4 lb. ON CLAM !!!  Looks like the wrecks are alive. Looks like some wind tomorrow, should be good fishing. We had alot of bait about 6 miles out and some bluefish marks in 55-65' "Stone Beds" Water temp 56.6 to 58 more life today than last week. This weekend should be good.

Good Report.  I've heard some reports that the 'Beds' are good for Flukin' too I'm looking forward to running up from Sea Isle at the End of the Month and giving it a try   ;D

The stone beds and the coral bottom are OK for fluke but the table top or what I all the "36" is the best spot. No matter which way the winds blow there is a edge that holds fish. Its clean bottom and you lose very few rigs. Alot of times the fish are there but the drift is too slow or fast. Skates and sharks,  Last year I was alone many times and pounded them. The depth changes drastically especially on the SE corner. If your going to fish it you can spend many hours exploring the area. I've been fishing there 25 years and still keep finding new spots. If the drift doesn't produce jump over to the coral or stone beds and try the 36 later.

Nice. Wish it didn't cost me $150 in gas to be able to go sea bass fishing this year :(
