Clinton Reservoir Sat June 7th Report !
« on: June 10, 2008, 08:15:03 AM »
Met my friend Steve on Sat at 3:45 am in Riverdale. We took the ride to Stockholm thinking the bait shop opens at 5 am.As soon as we got to the bait shop the sign on the window said the store opens at 6 am  >:( At 6am we got our bait and headed to Clinton reservoir.Steve launches his Monark and we start power drifting herring (aka Forcing the action).A half hr goes by and 1 of the 4 rods gets a hit.1st smallie on.From that moment we picked away at the smallies. At 11 am we had 15 Smallies average smallie was 17" and we had them up to 20".Steve also caught a Stockie Brown & a pickeral.

So at 11:30 am Steve had the Hillary Clinton Grand Slam  ;D

At 12 noon we were off Clinton reservoir.

Pics to follow.

that is a good day Art ... i work right over there  in oak ridge... havent fished there because its private and you need a license for the four reservoirs/lakes and what not... but i did hear theres some fat brown trout in there, my father having grown up in west milford is very family familiar with clinton reservoir and echo lake, greenwood lake, etc. Canistear also has some nice size bass in there... cant wait to see the pics  t^ t^
Give a man a fish, and he can eat for a day. But teach a man how to fish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years.

The Newark water shed permit is worth every penny.

And yes Clinton has some really nice Brown Trout.

A few months ago my friend Steve landed a 11 lb Brown in another lake not to far from Clinton  ;) Can you say Skillfull angler award ?

Steve's 11 lb / 29" Brown

Below is a nice Brown I caught last June  ;)

That is a sweet brown trout, did you get that out of clinton ? You were definitly using shiners and letting it sink to the bottom.  chrz

The Big Brown was caught at Lake Waywayanda   ;)

The fish hit a large shiner.

When we drift we usually put out 5 lines.

4 lines in different depths & 1 line on a float.

Most hits come at 15-20 ft down.

Most people do not realize how good our Freshwater fishery is close to home. There are some great lakes & reservoirs near by.Yes some spots you need an extra permit but like I said before the extra permit is worth every penny.
