This is my story and I'm sticking to it !!
« on: May 18, 2008, 03:12:28 PM »
Headed out yesterday morning. Left my house at 5:30 am to go fishing with a buddy of mine from work on his boat. The plan was for my buddy to put his boat in at Sewaren and I would meet him at his new slip in Morgans Marina. By the time he got the boat in the water and motored on over to pick me up it was already 8:30. I needed to leave my truck at Morgans so I could drive him back to get his truck/trailer at Sewaren later. So off we go with a total of 5 guy's.We head over to GK and the bunker are even tougher to get than last week. Spread out all over the entrance to the harbor and hanging down low. Saw some guy wearing what looked like a clown wig netting and selling bunker. We managed to get about a dozen bunker and we had two dozen clams I picked up at Fred's. Moved east and drifted around Old Orchard and the wind started up pretty good. After everyone but myself got bit off from bluefish I proceeded to  make everyone up some steel leaders. Landed some big blues but nothing else was happening. Put in a call to Mike from the Funky Monkey to see if he was on the water. Mike gave me some info (thanks bro) and we headed to the area and gave it a shot. After getting tired of catching blues and getting bounced around like a ping pong ball from the wind I suggested we just troll a little. We hooked up a couple of Rapala X-Raps in the bunker color and trolled around by the tip of the hook. Had blues on right away and then it finally happened. Had a hit on my pole and the way it was fighting thought it was another blue but when I got it to the boat it was a nice 33" striper. Now everyone is getting there second wind but that was the only striped one coming in the boat that day. When everyone's arms were hurting from reeling in blues we took the long ride back to Morgans to get the boat set up in the new slip. Of course I got my stones broken all the way back and then some. The slips at Morgans are very very very tight to say the least. Finally got her in and tied up and realized there's no finger docks to use to get off the boat. Gonna have to build a plank to walk off the back of the boat to get on and off. Had no choice but to hop over to the neighbors boat and use his ramp to get off. We took a beating out there and every part of my body was sore when we got back. But I felt no pain pulling that only striper out of this fish box when we got back. I was suprised that gas at the dock was ONLY 3.89 a gallon. We burned $130 in gas in about 5 hours. Can't wait to get back out there this weekend and rig one pole for stripers and the other for fluke...

The fuel prices do suck. I burned up a few dollars yesterday myself, all for blues down in Barnegat Bay. <'((((><
