joining two pieces of poly rope
« on: May 21, 2008, 08:01:26 PM »
I am extending my cast net rope. Does anyone know how to weave the two lines together like a Chinese finger trap? If so, what is the name of this knot so I can look for a diagram. Thanks.

Hey there Capt. Square Knot...I was just talking about this with Capt. Mike and it looks like The Fisherman's Knot would work well and works best under load.

Joining two pieces of poly rope can also be spliced by weaving into each other around 3 to four twists any more and the line will become weakened. It is called a short splice.  There is a long splice but the short splice is much stronger.  If you have a marlinespike it makes the job go a lot easier.  They sell small ones or you can use a phillips screwdriver to separate the twists.

I do not think this is regular poly 3 strand.
You can not do this with polypropylene unless it is 3 strand. I would use a long splice not a short for this aplication.
