Trolling with braid line question.
« on: May 21, 2008, 07:09:01 PM »
I am considering getting away from wire line trolling for a while and going to braid.

Is there a rule of thumb for braid like there is for wire on how deep a spoon or umbrella will be with X-amount of braid line in the water?

I know 1:10 for wire, anyone know X:X for braid? And how much weight.

Capt. Mike has my Book on Trolling for Bass and Blues, it has alot of info on trolling with braid. I'll try and have him bring it on Tuesday. t^

Going to pull them again this weekend. last time I tried everything came on the spoons. I still have to try them a few more times to say one way or the other.

I am considering getting away from wire line trolling for a while and going to braid.

Go for it !!.

I fish with a well known & respected captain who switched over from wire to braid for trolling 2 years ago. He spools up with topshot of 150 yards of braid over mono. He lets the line out until the braid mono knot jsut touches the water. Depending on what he is pulling (spoons, rigs, plugs) & depth will determine how heavy a trolling sinker he adds.

He does very well for himself in the bay.
