Memorial day Manasquan inlet reports- Pounder 2
« on: May 26, 2008, 09:42:13 PM »
OK, big weekend this time around. Here's the rundown...

Friday- Headed down to the Top O' the mast area, found some pilings and decent marks, but despite our efforts of trolling, casting, and jigging, no fish were to be found.  returned to the river to pick away at some bluefish by the Train Bridge.  Just as we were preparing to leave, i hit a nice 26" bass on a fin-s under the bridge.

Pix to come (hopefully)

Saturday- Went north to Avon.  saw afew fish being troled up but becasue of our limited schedule, we had left the trolling rods behind.  Jigging etc was pointless.  returned again to load up on blues

Sunday(here it gets interesting)- We took my counsins and uncle (the captian's brother and law and nephews) out to do alittle bottom fishing at the SG reef.  They are very inexperienced inexperienced fishermen, but bottom fishing is simple, right? Wrong. My eldest cousin was trying to cast a 4oz weight and peanut bunker away from the boat, but the bail flipped over and the moving weight "tore" the rod right out of his hands into the water.  It was a beautiful Barefoot rod with a shiny new (4th trip) penn slammer reel.  :-\ :-\ 5hrug 5hrug >:D   Evidently, they don't float.  Anyway, the day was a massive unsuccess,  the only fish being landed was a 28" bluefish.  Our rattled crew retuned through increasing seas with no fish, one less rod, and sunburn  ::)

Monday- A tiring night of entertaining the aforementioned guests caused the captain (my dad btw) to make the decision to go out today at 8 instead of 5:45. This was a descision that he would live to regret sorely.  We found bunker splashing all over the inlet in the morning, caught our fill (also, the good ship FLYTE TYME- or was it HY FLYER? i cant remember- gave us about a dozen, thanx guys) and proceeded out.  We found an incredibly large fleet off of Manto, where we livelined and jigged to no avail, despite bunker everywhere.  We returned to the river defeated once again, to pick away at some tiny buefish.  The captain of the BIMINI GAL said the fishing in the pods was unbelievably good until the boats showed up around 7.  He had his limit by 6:00  If we had gotten up earlier, we'd have had bass for dinner.  Shoulda taken up tennis :'( :'(

On the way home my dad's car (new) got rear-ended >:D >:D >:D

Now that will be a Memorable Day. (sorry, that was bad  nosmly)
Did you punch in the numbers where the rod was lost? Maybe catch it on a future trip.  t^

Good effort for the weekend.
